Ode to the West

from Twenty First Century Fool by Ewan Macintyre

/

about

This song came to life initially in february 2020 and then properly formed much later within the pandemic. Again, in the park opposite our place, but this time in february. I took my shoes off and began to remenis about the times I went out west on tour. Particularly thinking of being with Clay in Thunder Bay over a thunder storm drinking whisky and hanging out in the sauna before lying in the ice. And then also, heavily inspired by the last grueling tour I did out west where I worked with Peter for the first time and went into financial ruin from car failures and gig cancellations...Hard times but good learning experiences.

lyrics

Took my shoes off on a cold february morning
Felt the snow beneath my feet
Let the world go by on a cold february morning
It was a winters day and my heart did start to beat

I can't feel my fingers and toes
Don't suppose there is a rhym or reasonable
Once more with less feeling we go
Learning just to lose what little meaning

Broken down again on a cold february morning
Heading west, chasing the grail
Don't make plans to keep on a cold february morning
Or a cold february evening, a cold february evening

Life it takes its turns and can leave you under the mountain
Failing hard and fast with style
Startreck soothed my spirit as I gazed there under the mountain
And I don't think I'll be moving for a while

Trouble may have hit you hard but my heart sings to see you smile
It comes to everyone of us in time
