Fall in Canada Reds are turning brown All the leaves are falling down How many times must the seasons change I'm kicking up leaves as the light starts to fade Circling round, another year gone by again I'm breathing in and rising just to fall, fall, fall Though I hate to leave, It's time to go Been coming on for a while Where goes all the time? Seven year come round and go again Never know where to begin, never see the end Cycles go by and take time to sink in I'm breathing in and rising just to fall, fall, fall

No-one knows just what's on the horizon I see, I saw, I go up and down I know, I knew, but things change so I can't be sure Horizontal Man, Horizontal Man I want, I wanted, but things change so I can't be sure I thought, I'm thinking, I think that no-one cares, so I'll take my time

Caterpillar 03:01
Do you take the time to see the world ripple around you Sunlight in the trees is shining all around you Wings that used to fly have fallen, now they ground you Changing with the time, shifting through your gaze Caterpillar, Caterpillar where did you go? I missed you so much, you don't even know Cocoon keep me safe hide until it's gone But I'm still waiting when I know I should be gone Caterpillar, Caterpillar, Climbing through the trees Shake a leg, come on down, let's go dancing please Never will we go out like we did before But I'm still waiting, watching, wanting for some more Youthful spirits everlasting, hope keeps us alive Old unweildly, ancient ideals, keep our fingers tied Means little to the few, and much to the many

A Bhith Saor 03:52
A bhith saor 's e a bhith nad aonar A bhith saor 's e a bhith nad aonar Cha chreid mi ann aon dòigh, is seo an dùbhlan a' cumail dlùth ri slighe nach eil rèidh a' giulain a' bhruadar gu bràth air seasmhachd fhada air feadh an t-saoghail Gun acras, cogadh neo èis Chuir mi seachad cuid dhem làithean le beartas nam bheò saibhreas m'inntinn, gaol agus gàire Is nan caillinn an slighe, sgaoilinn mo sgiathan Ag itealaich le m'òran san adhar Thachair sinn ri chèile a' gluasad gu buan Fada bho chuid na chuimhnean nar breith Caillte is ag èirigh, ginealach fa-leth Seann smaointinn gar bacadh nan greim A bhith saor 's e a bhith nad aonar A bhith saor 's e a bhith nad aonar Is e a' crìoch na linntean ola Cho at ri losgann an fhoghar Saobh a deas ar nadar, deiseil a bhith sgàinte Thèid dualchas an aghaidh nan creig 'S e an t-àileadh, an fhuam, sluaisreadh a' chuain Tearman na h-inntinn gar dìonadh bho ghruaim Is èiginn dhuinn fhaicinn caochladh le buaidh Mus rachar sinn fodha mar luaidh Air m'aonar a' coimhead air na speuran Fann is sanntach, is sinn-ne fhathast a' gearain Fighte a-steach, cus nar fighe, Cuir romhad, neo cuir as dheth, oir tha e briste A bhith saor 's e a bhith nad aonar A bhith saor 's e a bhith nad aonar A Bhith Saor (English translation) To be free is to be alone To be free is to be alone I don't believe in one way of life and that's the challenge To stay true to a path that is not balanceed Forever burdened with dreams of sustainability across the world Without hunger, war or need I've spent a full, wealthy life In mind, love and laughter And whenever I have lost my way, I spread my wings Flying with a song in the sky We came together, perpetually on the move Far away from the memories of our heritage Lost and on the rise, an isolated generation Old ways of thinking holding us back in their grip To be free is to be alone To be free is to be alone It's the end of the age of oil As full as a frog in the autumn Going against the current of our nature, ready to burst Our roots and heritage will be smashed against the rocks It is the smell and the sound, the rushing of the sea Haven of the mind that protects us from harm And we must see impactful change Before we ourselves sink like lead By myself, looking out across the night sky Weak and greedy, and we are still complaining Woven in with too many threads Change it or get rid of it, it is broken To be free is to be alone To be free is to be alone

Any Doubt 04:26
If there's any doubt in your mind Don't know which way to turn I will understanding If there's any doubt in your mind Hard to go against the tide Feeling the ebb and the flow If you should feel the pull of the waves Don't have any doubt in your mind Can't you see, can't you see that I'm here waiting? Can't you see, can't you see it's time to be gone Taking on the world is your style Heavy with the weight of it all If you should let it down for a time Don't have any doubt in your mind Can't you see, can't you see that I'm here waiting? Can't you see, can't you see it's time to be gone? Many roads, expectations And we don't need to draw a lines If there's any doubt in your mind If there's any doubt in your mind If there's any doubt in your mind

Nowhere is no place I'd like to be Falling free Eyes on the axis spinning round don't seeming-liar Biding time, finding ways Unafraid That the push and pull will ramble me well beyond my grave Oh what, what in the world Oh what, what in the world Oh what, what in the world do you want from me? Do you want from me? Do you want from me? Lids fall down, day goes by Where we're bound How? And where? I don't care to wonder why Sunshine sheets keep me warm Safe from harm Roll me over till another day has gone Oh what, what in the world Oh what, what in the world Oh what, what in the world do you want from me? Do you want from me? Do you want from me? Big blue sky; wash upon my dreams Don't know why or what they mean While you can think you're free While you can dream Tell me what, What in the world Oh what, what in the world Oh what, what in the world do you want from me? Do you want from me? Do you want from me?

Ged a tha mi còmhla riut, tha mi fada sna speuran Glacte a-staigh mo chuimhne, tarraing bho do ghreim Caithte anns na bruadaran aonar is eadar saobh-shruth Sgapta às mo chruth, cleithte bho mo rùn Seòladair na h-inntinn Fada bho do gràdh Aodan gheal, tha e tinn le inntinn Air eilean leat fhèin, seachranach nad cheum deas d'eanchainn; beàrn nach gheibh thu greim Innealan fhathast ruith, ag ith na tèid a-muigh Fad na làithean dìreach suith, is chan eil mòran leantainn neo cinntinn Ged a tha mi còmhla riut, tha mi fada sna speuran Glacte a-staigh mo chuimhne, tarraing bho do ghreim Caithte anns na bruadaran aonair is eadar saobh-shruth Sgapta às mo chruth, cleithte bho mo rùn Seòladair na h-inntinn Fada bho do gràdh Aodan gheal, tha e tinn le inntinn Seòladair na h-Inntinn (English translation) Though I am with you I am far in the sky Caught in my memory, Pulled away from your grip Worn away in the dreams of a loner, in between the false current Devided from my form, hidden from my desire Voyager of the mind Far from your love Whitened face, he is sick with interest Alone, by yourself on an island Wandering in your footsteps In the south of your mind A void that you cannot fill Machines are still running Consuming what comes out All days are spend just sitting There is not much understanding or growth

Took my shoes off on a cold february morning Felt the snow beneath my feet Let the world go by on a cold february morning It was a winters day and my heart did start to beat I can't feel my fingers and toes Don't suppose there is a rhym or reasonable Once more with less feeling we go Learning just to lose what little meaning Broken down again on a cold february morning Heading west, chasing the grail Don't make plans to keep on a cold february morning Or a cold february evening, a cold february evening Life it takes its turns and can leave you under the mountain Failing hard and fast with style Startreck soothed my spirit as I gazed there under the mountain And I don't think I'll be moving for a while Trouble may have hit you hard but my heart sings to see you smile It comes to everyone of us in time

about

Twenty First Century Fool was written and created over lock downs and curfews in 2021 in Montreal and completed in 2022 on the Isle of Skye.

The subject matter delves into questions of civil liberty, mental health and some fairly deep existential issues as well as thoughts on the environment and sustainability on micro and macro scales... To top it all off, it features Ewan's first ever Gàidhlig compositions and it's all brought together by a killer 7 piece band of young, hot Quebecois musicians.

Reviews:

Macintyre's string arrangements manage to be pastoral and muscular, the interplay between guitar and strings is particularly fine on this track.... TWENTY FIRST CENTURY FOOL is a lush and funky shot in the arm
Mark Higgens, Fatea Records 2023

Twenty First Century Fool is, indeed, superb. It’s an album that’s already on my list as a contender for my Album of the Year. Do yourself a favour and give it a listen... His best work yet!
Ewan’s Celtic roots are worn loudly and proudly in the instrumentation whilst, vocally, he manages to sound like a frenzied Marc Bolan.
John Barlass, At the Barrier 2023

A dreamy folk sound, complete with wailing guitars and lush strings which at times has a jazz-like feel while never straying fully into that territory. The two Gàidhlig songs on the album show Macintyre’s desire to promote and encourage the use of Gàidhlig in a diverse array of music.
Jim Finnie, Americana UK 2023

Firmly rooted in Ewan’s Celtic heritage, Twenty First Century Fool is an absorbing musical cornucopia that is probably best savoured slowly.
Maybe it’s Ewan’s vocal style but there are times when the recording brings to mind some of the interesting excursions Robert Plant has taken in recent years. No bad thing
Brian Cope, Folk London Magazine 2023

We’re used to bands who sing in Gaelic imitating the style of traditional songs but Ewan doesn’t do that and this track is closer to psychedelic rock than a Scottish ballad... The more you listen, the more you hear.

Dai Jeffries, Folking Magazine 2023

More Morricone than Benbecula. The song starts with Ewan’s solo voice but soon the piece fills out when Karine Bouchard’s Celtic cello adds an echo of the old country. The theme of the song is the paradox of the end of the age of oil and the fact that cheap transport made emigration possible. As our petroleum era comes to a close he ponders: “Our roots and heritage will be smashed against the rocks”.
